We can run a winter walking, winter mountaineering or winter climbing skills course for you on a date of your choice: so if there is a skill you would like to learn or a route you have always wanted to climb then get in touch and we will design a course just for you. We can guide you on a classic journey or teach you how to get out by yourselves. We can design courses for all levels- just let us know what you have done before and what you would like to achieve.
We recommend the Cairngorms as a venue for our winter mountaineering skills and climbing courses as the routes we use are all relatively accessible from the ski area car park. The gullies in Coire an’T Sneachda are a popular choice for an introduction to Scottish winter climbing and the Fiacaill Ridge is great for winter mountaineering and scrambling skills. The Cairngorm plateau over to Ben Macdui can be a serious place in winter so learning how to navigate safely in white out conditions and make route choices based on the avalanche risk are covered in our winter walking skills courses. We could also meet you in Glen Coe or Fort William for an ascent of Ben Nevis. All of our Scottish winter skills courses are run by fully qualified winter climbing and mountaineering instructors who are members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors.
In the Lake District the ridges on Helvellyn of Striding and Swirral Edge and the gullies on Great End often come into winter condition and give a great winter mountaineering or climbing day out. We can run these days whatever the weather and still cover lots of learning, particularly on map reading and avalanche awareness.
Our courses are run by fully qualified Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors who are full members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI).
