Kit

You will be sent a full kit list when you book but in general you need to be prepared for a day outside whatever the weather so you might want to consider the following:
Clothes to keep you warm all day.

  • Hat and gloves.
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers.
  • Lunch, snacks and drinks.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses.
  • Coins for pay and display car park.
Yes! We highly recommend the Silva Expedition 4 compass. Make sure you get the one with a red string (the green string is a military compass).
If you are going to buy any kit before your course please do speak to us first. We are happy to give personal recommendations based on your course and your goals for the future.

Weather

All of our courses will still run if it is raining. We will always adapt the courses to make sure we get the best out of the day.

It is extremely rare but of course it can happen if we consider it unsafe to run the course. Possible causes include extreme weather or blocked roads.
If we take the decision to cancel the course we will offer you the choice of coming again on a different date or a full refund.

Under 18's

All of our open courses are for over 18s only. We run lots of family courses where children are welcome but all under 18s MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This is a legal restriction and no exceptions can be made.

This really depends on which activities you choose and the time of year so please get in touch and we can advise.

Logistics

There is a huge range of accommodation in the Lake District from basic campsites to five star boutique hotels. A good place to start looking is the official tourist board website:
www.golakes.co.uk

We are also big fans of Damson Lodge in Keswick.
www.damsonlodge.co.uk

Each course has its own starting point and precise details of where to meet us will be emailed to you after you book. We will be easy to spot with a More than Mountains logo on our vehicle.
If you would like to know where a particular course starts please check the appropriate course page or email us for more information.

Yes definitely.
You can get to Windermere (for the southern Lake District) or Penrith (for the northern Lake District) by train and then use buses or taxis from there.
www.golakes.co.uk has lots more information on their travel page.

Unfortunately we do not allow dogs on any of our courses.
